  1. A-Tisket, A-Tasket

When you think of a picnic, the storage of one’s delicacies comes to mind. Cart your goodies to and from your picnic with a stylish basket in tow, check out the options from Kmart and Robin's Kitchen.  Don’t forget to set yourself up for success (read: hours of lounging leisurely in the gentle breeze). Lay some linen down and scatter some cute cushions for an unbeatable set-up.

  2. Get on board

No spread is complete without something to display it on. Hot tip: select cheeseboards of different shapes, sizes and heights to level up your presentation. The range from The Reject Shop, Robin's Kitchen and Kmart will put you on the right track.

  3. Bloom

Adorn your set-up with her favourite flowers. Place your blooms in a couple of vases to ensure the space feels bright and fresh. Pick up a bunch from Coles or Woolworths.

  4. Love it, then list it

It’s not a picnic without food. Make a list of mum’s favourite treats and get shopping. Head to your deli or grocer of choice and pick up the goods, think baguettes, punnets of berries, seasonal fruit, a mixture of soft and hard cheeses, olives, prosciutto, sopressa and crudites. If baked goods are mum's thing, pick up some freshly baked treats.

  5. Consider crockery and cutlery

Let’s face it, plastic and foil packaging aren’t the most aesthetically pleasing elements at a picnic. Up the ante with some porcelain crockery to decant your dips into, sans the unsightly containers. Don’t forget cutlery, too!

  6. Pop a bottle

Pick up a bottle of something delicious and bubbly and let the good times flow. Champagne, gin and tonic, lemon lime and bitters, and any of your leading lady’s favourite refreshments are all acceptable additions. Just don’t forget glassware to serve your beverage of choice in.  Visit Star Liquor opposite Woolworths or Liquorland opposite Coles and ask the friendly team to suggest the perfect drop.

  7. Location, location, location
Scout for a lush green area in the shade where you can bask in the dappled autumn sunlight and enjoy some quality time with the main lady in your life.
